The first version of “Mi ciencia, mi país” a competition organized by the Universidad Austral de Chile, and Austral Incuba and sponsored by the newspaper “El Mercurio”, encouraged Chilean investigators to describe their research in a concise and friendly way for a general public. A total of 467 participants from Chile and abroad included people at different stages of their scientific career, ranging from undergraduate students to senior researchers. Of these, Paola Murgas, a postdoctoral researcher working at Fundación Ciencia & Vida, won the second place in the competition. She described a novel method exploited by their group to boost the cells of our own immune system to fight against cancer. The first place was for Emilio Méndez, from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, while the third place was for Bernardita Cádiz from Universidad de Valencia (Spain).
