Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer Unit
The Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transfer (TT) Unit of Fundación Ciencia & Vida (FCV) identifies, protects, and transfers the scientific research results developed at the institution, primarily in the biomedical and biotechnological fields.
Its mission is to ensure that new knowledge generated can be transformed into concrete solutions with social, economic, and health impact, through legal appropriation and subsequent licensing to interested companies or entities.
How we do it ?
The unit bases its operation on a methodology that includes:
- Technological scouting, to identify early-stage technologies with potential applications.
- Patentability evaluation, using internal and external specialized analyses.
- Definition of protection and transfer strategies through the Intellectual Property Committee (IPC), which brings together all of FCV's know-how in science, business, regulatory affairs, and intellectual property to properly assess the potential of the technology and determine the feasibility of investing in its protection via IP rights.
- Execution of IP and TT strategies, including patent applications, license negotiations, trademark registrations, creation of trade secrets, and more.
- Ongoing advisory services for researchers and bioentrepreneurs on topics such as IP strategy, licensing, and technology transfer agreements.
These actions aim to maximize the impact of the science developed at FCV, promoting its practical application for the benefit of society.

Who makes up the team and which are the entities it collaborates with?
The unit is led by the Director of IP and TT and works in collaboration with:
- Researchers and lab heads at the Center.
- FCV's Business and Entrepreneurship Office, to coordinate technology valorization and licensing processes.
- Science and technology based companies within the FCV ecosystem.
- Academic institutions and external law firms for evaluation, protection, and commercialization of technologies.
- Government entities (e.g., INAPI, ANID).
Additionally, the unit participates actively in national and international training and collaboration initiatives in IP and technology transfer.
