Carlos Lagos, PhD

Associate Researcher

Dr. Carlos F. Lagos is a Pharmaceutical Chemist (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2008) and holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello (2016, Summa Cum Laude). He is Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Universidad San Sebastián, where he leads the Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery Laboratory (CBD2), and Associate Researcher at the Excellence Center Fundación Ciencia & Vida.

His research integrates structural bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry, and molecular pharmacology to identify bioactive molecules targeting metabolic, neurodegenerative, and inflammatory disorders. Current projects focus on nuclear receptor modulation in obesity, multi-target serotonergic ligands for neurodevelopmental disorders, and selective connexin hemichannel modulators with translational potential in epilepsy.

Dr. Lagos has authored over 65 peer-reviewed publications, two book chapters, and is co-inventor on six granted international patents and thirteen additional filings. His work has been recognized with the UC Technology Transfer Award and multiple distinctions from the Endocrine Society and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

He actively contributes to graduate training, supervising theses in drug discovery and translational pharmacology, and participates in doctoral and master’s programs in Cell Biology, Biomedicine, and Computational Biology.
