Raquel Quatrini, PhD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Raquel Quatrini is a molecular microbial ecologist seeking to understand the structure, function and dynamics of the microbial consortia present in extreme acidic econiches, including those driving the bioleaching of copper.

Raquel was born and raised in Argentina, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (1992–1996, Universidad del Comahue). After graduating, she moved to Chile to obtain her PhD in Microbiology from Universidad de Chile (1999-2003). Between 2004 and 2005 she did postdoctoral research in functional genomics with Dr. Violaine Bonnefoy at the C.N.R.S. (Marseille, France) and Dr. David S. Holmes at the Center for Bioinformatics.

Dr. Quatrini is head of the Microbial Ecophysiology Lab at FCV since 2007 and she was appointed Associate Professor at Universidad San Sebastián in 2019.
