Tomás Pérez-Acle, PhD
Principal Investigator
Dr. Tomás Pérez-Acle is a computational biologist whose transdisciplinary research spans computational biophysics, neuromorphic AI, stochastic modeling, and the dynamics of complex biological networks. His recent work includes decoding retinal signals and exploring information as a modulator of human behavior. Over the past five years, he has published 20 Q1 articles and supervised six doctoral theses, supported by national and international funding sources such as FONDECYT, ANID, CORFO, the U.S. Air Force, and HP Labs.
He has held leadership roles at top Chilean institutions, including the Centro Interdisciplinario de Neurociencia de Valparaíso (CINV), the National Laboratory for High Performance Computing, and the Center for Mathematical Modeling. Currently, he is Principal Investigator and Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at Fundación Ciencia & Vida and Director of the first PhD program in Computational Biology in Chile (USS).
Dr. Pérez-Acle contributes actively to science policy and evaluation panels (FONDECYT, FONDEF, CORFO), and has represented Chile internationally, such as in the Chile–USA Council on Science and Technology. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he joined expert advisory boards, providing modeling and communication to support public decision-making.
He is also an entrepreneur and cofounder of CONNECTOMICA SpA, a biotech startup developing therapies which target connexin channels in inflammatory diseases.
