Iván Alfaro, PhD

Associate Researcher

Biochemist and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He completed postdoctoral training at Medivation Inc. and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

In 2016, he joined the Fundación Ciencia & Vida Scientific and Technological Center of Excellence as a principal investigator, and in 2019 he was appointed Researcher and Director of Innovation and Technological Development at the Institute of Sciences and Innovation in Medicine of Universidad del Desarrollo.

He is currently an Associate Professor and Researcher at the Clínica Alemana–Universidad del Desarrollo School of Medicine, and an Associate Researcher at Centro Ciencia & Vida – Universidad San Sebastián. Dr. Alfaro has solid expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, microscopy, pharmacology, and drug discovery/development.

His research focuses on the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms and the development of pharmacological modulators of selective autophagy for the treatment of neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases, as well as cancer.

Dr. Alfaro also holds an MBA (UDD), a Master’s in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship (UAI), and postgraduate diploma training in Technology Development (MIT) and Health Public Policy (UDD), and he is involved in consulting, research, and entrepreneurial activities in biomedical biotechnology.
