Sebastián Valenzuela, PhD

Associate Researcher

Dr. Sebastián Andrés Valenzuela Anguita is veterinarian and researcher with over twenty years of experience in laboratory animal science, biotechnology, and biomedical research. He earned his Veterinary Medicine degree in 2000 and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Universidad Andrés Bello in 2013. More recently, he completed advanced diplomas in university teaching and digital learning strategies at Universidad Andrés Bello (2024–2025).

Since 2003, Dr. Valenzuela has served as Institutional Veterinarian and Director of the Preclinical Research Center at Fundación Ciencia & Vida/Universidad San Sebastián, where he oversees animal facility management and leads training and certification programs for laboratory animal users. In parallel, he is an academic at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Universidad San Sebastián, contributing in areas such as research methodology, bioethics, animal welfare, and laboratory animal science. He also serves as member of institutional animal ethics committee.
Internationally certified by AALAS (ILAM Program, 2018–2019) and FESAHANCCCAL (2023), Dr. Valenzuela has specialized in facility management, leadership, and welfare indicators. His career includes extensive teaching at leading Chilean and Latin American universities, contributing to postgraduate programs, bioethics courses, and specialized workshops.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at major international conferences such as AALAS and SBCAL, and contributed to the development of vaccines and biotechnological innovations. Dr. Valenzuela is recognized for integrating science, ethics, and education, strengthening animal welfare and research quality across Latin America.
