Open Science Seminar: "Regulation of cholesterol transport and exosome secretion"

Date
Monday, November 9, 2026
Time
10:00 - 11:00

About this event

Centro Ciencia & Vida (FCV-USS), as part of its Open Science seminar program, invites you to a new scientific lecture featuring Dr. Albert Lu, researcher at the Department of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona and the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), Spain.

During the seminar, titled "SNX13-mediated regulation of an NPC1-bypass pathway linking cholesterol egress to exosome secretion", Dr. Lu will discuss the cellular mechanisms that regulate cholesterol transport and its relationship with the secretion of exosomes, small extracellular vesicles involved in intercellular communication.

The presentation will focus on the role of SNX13, a protein involved in intracellular trafficking processes, and its participation in an alternative pathway to NPC1, a key molecule for cholesterol transport from endosomal and lysosomal compartments.  This research aims to contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms connecting the intracellular distribution of cholesterol with the release of extracellular vesicles, processes that are relevant for cellular function and the study of various diseases.

Speaker
Dr. Albert Lu, Department of Biomedicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Barcelona; CELLEX Biomedical Research Centre and August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), Barcelona, Spain.

Organization
The activity is organized by Dr. Manuel Varas-Godoy, principal investigator at Centro Ciencia & Vida, associate researcher at CEBICEM, and faculty member at the Faculty of Sciences of Universidad San Sebastián, alongside Pascuala Valdivia, PhD candidate in the PhD Program in Cell Biology and Biomedicine USS.

Activity framed within the ANID Basal FB210008 project of Centro Ciencia & Vida.
