View profileNeurodegenerative and severe neuromuscular disorders represent a major and growing health burden worldwide, affecting more than 50 million people globally. The investigation of this research cluster aims to define the cellular stress and neuroimmune mechanisms driving neural and neuromuscular dysfunction in aging and disease. Integrating molecular, cellular, and systems-level approaches, we will identify pathways linking proteostatic imbalance, immune activation, and tissue remodeling to neurodegeneration, fibrosis, and chronic pain, enabling the development of innovative therapeutic strategies targeting shared disease-driving mechanisms.
Through collaborations with clinical centers (Red-Salud UC Christus), biotechnology partners (ENVIRON, Rubisco, Immuno Connect), and national research networks, Research cluster IV links fundamental discoveries in neurodegeneration, fibrosis, and neuroimmune regulation with Chilean healthcare and biomedical innovation sectors. By identifying therapeutic targets and developing experimental interventions for chronic pain, neuromuscular, and age-related degeneration, the research cluster advances translational pipelines linking research, clinical approaches, and technology platforms to support innovative therapies and address Chile’s growing neurological and neuromuscular diseases.
